National Trails Day

June 1, 2019 was our first annual National Trails Day Event!

In partnership with the University of Illinois Extension and with the help of local volunteers, including Master Naturalists, Master Gardners and more, from 8am to 1pm we will have guided educational hikes, food, demos and speakers.

11am Prairie Walk led by Anita Nichols, Lora & Mike Wright, & Rose Moore

12pm Monarch/Insect Walk led by Ken Johnson

Wildlife Scavenger Hunt:

Silhouette shapes of 16 wild animals that could be found at Blackthorn hill Nature Preserve have been installed along the trails. Participants can walk the grounds, find each silhouette, take a selfie of yourself with each animal along the way, and return to the main area for a prize.


Vendor information updated as plans are finalized.

WING will have Blackthorn Hill Nature Preserve hats and t-shirts available for purchase or to order if we don't have your size.

Knox County 4-H Julian Inniss & Nicole Nelson will be there with outdoor skills activities

The State of Illinois will have Tony Kloppenborg with information about the Illinois Recreational Access Program and other state programs.
